Nevada Receives $239,318 Federal Grant to Support Small Business Exports
The State of Nevada has received a $239,318 Small Business Administration (SBA) grant through the State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) Pilot Grant Initiative. STEP aims to increase the number of small businesses exporting and to increase the value of exports for those small businesses currently exporting. In support of the President’s National Export Initiative, STEP disperses a two-year, $30 million annual appropriation targeted to double U.S. exports over the next five years and to give America a competitive edge in the global market. The State of Nevada Office of Economic Development (OED) will administer the grant throughout the state with the goal of filling Nevada’s export pipeline.

(CARSON CITY –Aug.17, 2011)
USDA Rural Development has obligated $19,700 in Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) funds to help an alfalfa rancher develop an alternative energy system for irrigation.
The Young Brothers Ranch out of Austin, Nevada is the recipient of the funds, which will be used to replace 3,000 feet of pipeline to allow a 93 kW hydro-turbine to run at full capacity. The total project cost is $78,800.
In FY 2009 Young Brothers received $95,423 to purchase and construct the hydro-turbine system. The system allows the ranch to create electricity using a stream-fed system. The electricity is then used to irrigate alfalfa fields on the ranch.
USDA Rural Development also obligated $1,635 in REAP funds for Kishor Morar, owner of the Budget Inn in Fallon, to replace his motel’s water heater. Mike’s Plumbing, of Fallon, did the work to replace the system with a high-efficiency water heater. The total project cost was $6,540.
REAP provides assistance to farmers, ranchers, and rural small businesses in developing renewable energy systems, and in making energy-efficiency improvements to their operations. For more information contact Mark Williams at (775) 887-1222, Ext. 116.
