SBIR/STTR Programs
The National Small Business Innovative Research Program (SBIR) was created in 1982 to strengthen the role of small firms in federally supported R&D programs. SBIR is now a mature, proven program that has grown from an initial federal investment of $400,000 to a level of $1.5 Billion a year
SBIR funds come in the form of either a contract or a grant. There are two levels of funding: Phase 1 which is up to $100,000 and six months and Phase 2 which is up to $750,000 and two years.
