About NCED

Today, the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) is the leader in developing and maintaining a diverse economic base, ensuring a healthy economy for the Silver State.   Established in 1983, under Governor Richard Bryan, the state agency was tasked with promoting and encouraging vital economic interests of Nevada, except for travel and tourism.

The NCED is comprised of a commission and two divisions:  Economic Development and the Nevada Film Office.  The Commission is composed of the Lt. Governor, who is its chairman, and six members representing business and industry, who are appointed by the Governor.  The Executive Director is appointed by the Governor and serves at the pleasure of the Commission.   The agency is staffed by 32 full-time employees and has offices in Carson City and Las Vegas.

Commission meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month.  For consideration at a meeting, requests and applications must be received 30 business days prior to the meeting.  Meetings are agendized and posted in Accordance with Nevada’s Open Meeting Laws.

Strategic Plan, Mandated Reports and Agency Budget

In accordance with Nevada Revised Statute 231, the NCED prepares a “State Plan for Industrial Development and Diversification.”  The Strategic Plan Documents are the following documents: Strategic Planning Presentation, Summary of Activity, and Consolidated Year End Report. On or before February 28th of each odd-numbered year, a Biennial Report must be submitted to the Director of the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau. The agency is funded from the state’s General Fund. Its Budget is submitted biennially to the Department of Administration and approved by the Nevada State Legislature. You may obtain an Appropriations Report from the Fiscal Analysis Division of the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau.
